Samsung has been reported numerous times to reveal a 5G smartphone at next year’s MWC 2019 trade show. A special variant of the Galaxy S10 is expected to be 5G-ready but it will only be launched in a few markets. Side by side, LG is also reported to release a 5G flagship to stay relevant in the market. The Korean giant has been doing well when its home appliances division is concerned, but the company’s mobile business continues to post losses. Perhaps the launch of a 5G handset might propel the manufacturer to new heights.
Samsung LG Might Launch Their 5G Smartphones Before March When the New Connectivity Standard Is Released in a Few Markets
According to a report from The Korea Herald, LG might launch an upgraded variant of the G7 ThinQ featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 and Snapdragon X50 5G modem. It has not been confirmed if the new model is going to be called G8 ThinQ but there’s something else you should know. The Snapdragon X50 5G can work with the Snapdragon 845 and Snapdragon 835 as a separate chip, so it is possible that LG incorporates next year’s flagship with Qualcomm’s previous-gen silicon, while giving it support for 5G.

LG aims to make its smartphone business a profitable venture in 2020 and it expects 5G to help increase those sales. Unfortunately, industry experts have argued that customers will not witness the full speed benefits of the 5G standard in 2019 as most of the equipment is still being rolled out in other regions. Such experts have stated that these benefits will be visible in 2020. This might be one reason why Apple is planning to launch 5G-compatible handsets in 2020 and not next year.
As for Samsung’s plans, the Galaxy S10 5G variant will reportedly launch in Korea and the U.S. first and it could fetch a higher price thanks to the new modem.
