Shadow of the Tomb Raider Teaser Leaks, Confirms Mexican or Central American Setting

The Shadow of the Tomb Raider leaks have transformed into a full-on torrent. Earlier this morning, the Tomb Raider website launched a countdown, set to expire at 6am PT tomorrow, and fans seemingly discovered the release date for Lara Croft’s next adventure hiding in the page’s code. Well, we now have confirmation of that release date, and a few other crucial details, as the Shadow of the Tomb Raider teaser trailer has leaked!

Posted by Facebook user Mik Hdn, it seems the teaser played either before or after a French preview showing of the new Tomb Raider movie. The teaser is only a few seconds long, and not the best quality, but it’s nonetheless a must-watch. We catch glimpses of Lara Croft running through a jungle environment, a heavily-armed soldier or mercenary, and a couple of shots of what appear to be Aztec or Mayan pyramids, confirming the game will take place (at least partly) in Mexico or Central America. Check out the teaser for yourself, below.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider has been one of gaming’s worst-kept secrets for some time now. The Shadow of the Tomb Raider title was leaked in late 2016 when somebody glimpsed a PowerPoint presentation on a game developer’s laptop while riding the Montreal subway (no, really). Kotaku later confirmed the name to be legit. A PR company later let slip a handful of Shadow of the Tomb Raider promotional materials, which hinted at the Aztec/Mayan setting.

Square Enix will most likely reveal Shadow of the Tomb Raider tomorrow (try to act surprised). The game is expected to launch on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on September 14.

How are you feeling about Shadow of the Tomb Raider? Excited to raid some Aztec and/or Maya tombs? Or do Lara Croft’s newer adventures not do it for you?
