Shadow of the Tomb Raider Trailer Details The Forge DLC’s New Co-op Features

Shadow of the Tomb Raider drops its first DLC story expansion, The Forge, next week, and Square Enix has dropped a new trailer detailing one of it’s most exciting new features – co-op play. Check out interviews from the developers, and footage of the new tag-team tomb raiding action, below.

The Forge’s new challenge tombs can be tackled either solo or co-op, which presented a new challenge for the game’s developers says Eidos Montreal senior producer Mario Chabtini.

“When it comes to co-op, you need to take into account the other player, so it gets more complicated. You need to account for that in terms of the level art, design, the VFX, the sound, so the other player always knows what’s going on.”

It also sounds like the new tombs will provide unique experiences for those who play co-op…

“By playing with another person, you’ll be able to access other places in the level, so in terms of traversal, you’ll benefit from having another player help you gain access to these places.”

The Forge is part of Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s “Paths” season pass, which will eventually deliver seven new adventures, each of which includes a new story, missions, challenge tomb, weapon, outfit, and skill. The full season pass will set you back $30, or you can buy each individual Path for $5. Here’s the official description for The Forge:

In The Forge, Lara must brave the lava-flooded Forge of the fallen gods to uncover the secrets of Kuwaq Yaku. Throughout her journey, Lara will uncover details about a friend’s ancient legacy, and overcome a danger long thought to be lost in flame. The Forge delivers a brand-new challenge tomb, playable in both solo and co-op. Players who complete the challenge tomb will be rewarded with the Grenadier skill, Brocken outfit, and Umbrage 3-80 weapon.

What do you think? Excited to raid tombs with a friend? I’m always on the lookout for good co-op experiences, so I’m definitely intrigued.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is available now on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. The Forge drops on November 13.
