Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Comments On A PlayStation Classic Edition Release

Following the release of the NES and SNES Classic Editions, other companies have started working on new versions of classic consoles. Sony has yet to jump on the bandwagon with a PlayStation classic release, but it seems like there’s been some discussion within the company about the matter.

Speaking with MantanWeb, as reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, Sony Interactive Entertainment John Kodera commented on a possible release of a PlayStation Classic Edition, saying that, while there’s nothing to announce at the time, they have been discussing ways to bring back past assets.

Regarding a reprint edition of PlayStation (PS), Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE)’s game console which was released in 1994 and became a worldwide hit, the company’s president Tsuyoshi Kodera said “There is nothing I can talk about at this time.” On top of that, he also hinted at something by saying “Our company is always digging up past assets, and I think there are various ways to do it. There have been discussions happening (in the company) on what kind of ways are there.”

The Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO has been talking quite a bit about the PlayStation brand and its future. The other day, he talked about the PS4 reaching the final stage of its life cycle, while yesterday he talked about the company trying to find new synergy between the home console and the PS Vita.
