Is your Spider-Sense tingling? It should be, because we’ve got almost 20 minutes of new Spider-Man gameplay to show you, courtesy of PlayStation UK’s official YouTube channel! The footage, which is narrated by Spider-Man creative director Bryan Intihar, provides a fresh look at city traversal, stealth, as well as a full playthrough of the game’s opening mission – check it out, below.

Some intriguing stuff revealed in that footage! The stealth section, in which Spider-Man foils an art gallery robbery by the Inner Demons, looks very Arkham-like. We see Spidey crawl through vents, distract enemies, and take them down from perches. The traversal section is also interesting, as we’re shown the backpack mechanic (find backpacks to collect special items that reveal more about the game’s backstory) and get a first look at Spidey’s flashy web-slinging tricks!
The rest of the video is mostly devoted to a full playthrough of the game’s first mission, which sees Spider-Man take down Wilson Fisk (aka The Kingpin). The action is pretty intense for an opening mission, and proves this game won’t be pulling its punches, right from the get-go.
Oh, and during the mission, Intihar lets slip (at the 15:10 mark) that you will indeed be facing the Sinister Six in the game – fans have speculated that would be the case, but this is our first official confirmation. We still don’t know what the Sinister Six lineup will be, but, shortly after confirming them, Intihar does mention Norman Osborne (aka The Green Goblin) by name. Hmmmm!

I got a chance to go hands-on with Spider-Man at E3, and, for the most part, I came away impressed…
“While I walked away from my hands-on time with Spider-Man with a few quibbles about the game’s traversal, there’s no denying Insomniac’s comic book romp grabbed me. . While I’m generally satisfied to try most E3 demos once and move on, I snuck back for seconds and third helpings of the game and was tempted indulge in even more. Spider-Man doesn’t reinvent the open-world superhero template established by Batman: Arkham City, but it sands off some of the rough edges, creating a light, accessible, open-world adventure a broad range of gamers and comic book fans ought to get wrapped up in.”
Spider-Man swings onto shelves on September 7.
