The Blackout Club Is A Co-Op Horror Game That’s Reminiscent of Stranger Things

Stranger Things fans will probably do well to keep an eye on The Blackout Club, a newly announced co-op horror game due for release in Q1 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Developed by Question Games (a small studio whose credits include Thief: Deadly Shadows, BioShock, BioShock 2, BioShock Infinite, Dishonored, Eldritch, NEON STRUCT, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and Prey) with Unreal Engine 4, The Blackout Club sees a group of kids trying to uncover a city-wide conspiracy by working together.

Jordan Thomas, Co-Founder at Question, said:

In The Blackout Club, the horror genre comes home. Our story is about vulnerable heroes – for whom co-op gameplay is a matter of survival – who unite to save their friends. We love expressive systems, where you shape the game experience as you see fit, often versus a whole ecosystem of intelligent threats. And now, they’re right next door – in a familiar, modern town, where the monster wears a human face. We can’t wait for you to meet it.

The kids will go out on surveillance missions with the ultimate goal to expose the conspiracy on camera and get the secret out.

Interestingly, these missions will feature procedurally generated elements including variable objectives, loot drops, enemy encounters, et cetera. Player characters can be customized with a variety of perks and equipment loadouts so that every member of the team plays a distinct role, such as using drones or deployable traps to outwit the opponents and gather the required evidence. Once the mission is complete, players will head back to their hideout where they can level up their characters and acquire new abilities.

It certainly sounds enticing, provided that the procedurally generated elements are done well. For the record, this will be the second title to be released by Question, the first one being the well-received (albeit relatively unknown) The Magic Circle.
