The newly-opened Epic Games Store has scored another, rather unexpected, exclusive – The Walking Dead: The Final Season will be making the jump from Steam to Epic when it releases its third episode this coming January. Don’t worry though, if you’ve already bought The Walking Dead: The Final Season on Steam, you can still play the final two episodes on that platform – only new players will have to go to the Epic Store.
For those who haven’t been keeping up, Telltale Games recently made the shocking announcement they were preparing to shut down and cancelling all future projects. This included the remaining two episodes of The Walking Dead: The Final Season. Thankfully, Skybound Games, a new studio founded by Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, stepped in to finish the season with a dev team largely composed of ex-Telltale employees. The Final Season Episode 3 was dated earlier this month, but Skybound didn’t mention anything about moving to the Epic Games Store at the time.

Skybound Games CEO Ian Howe and president of interactive Dan Murray issued the following joint statement on the move…
“The team at Epic owns a major chapter in the history of the game industry. We’re excited to work together on their latest transformative event with the launch of the Epic Games Store. Epic stepped up to the plate immediately to work with us in order to bring the original team back together and ensure fans will receive the completed season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season.”
Hmmm, sounds like Epic may have some level of financial stake in Skybound Games. If that’s the case, it’s certainly good news for whatever Skybound decides to make next, as Epic has more cash than it knows what to do with right now.
The Walking Dead: The Final Season Episode 3 launches on January 15, 2019.
