OnePlus and its top management is very vocal about their processes. This allows the company to build a loyal fan base and stay in touch regularly with its users. Recently. OnePlus’ CEO Pete Lau gave an exclusive interview to PC Mag in which he highlighted his intention of bringing next year’s OnePlus 7 to US carriers.

OnePlus Went Through Hundreds Of Prototypes Of The OnePlus 6 Before ‘Settling’ On The Final Variants
Designing a flagship smartphone is no easy feat. Companies start months in advance with devices, and these ‘starting’ prototypes are often based on gadgets that have been in the pipeline for years. Innovation requires patience as designers’ imagination often exceeds what is practically achievable. Today, we get an inside look at how OnePlus chooses its annual flagship smartphones.
PC Mag has posted a video that shows tens and hundreds of prototypes for the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 5T. The amount of devices (and back panels) on display is simply stunning and shows the number of different options the company has to choose from for a final launch. Look closely and you’ll also see that several variants of Red are present as well.
Most of the prototypes shown in the video are of back panels, which is completely understandable. After all, you can’t expect OnePlus to display unreleased and fully assembled smartphone prototypes in public – the company will use some of these in future launches after all. The first principle of industrial design is to give the idea a physical form to get a taste of its actual look and feel; it looks like OnePlus has got this narrowed down to the bone.

It’s comforting to know that this much thought and effort goes behind a device that isn’t light on the pocket, despite OnePlus’ gadgets being some of more budget-friendly flagships out there. We do however get treated to eight fully assembled prototypes of the OnePlus 6 and nine such variants of the OnePlus 5.
