This Is Huawei’s Answer To Google Assistant, Siri And Alexa

We all know very well that since last year, we know that Huawei is immersed in the development of a virtual assistant based on artificial intelligence simply to join the race led by Google Assistant, Siri and other companies. However, now according to the latest reports, the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has developed its answer to take down Google Assistant, Siri and Alexa.

This Is Huawei’s Answer To Google Assistant, Siri And Alexa

Since last year, we know that Huawei is immersed in the development of a virtual assistant based on artificial intelligence, with which to join the race led by Google Assistant, Siri and other companies. Along with the Mate 10 and 10 Pro, the firm was already taking its first steps in the field of AI, through the recognition of scenes in the camera, intelligent management of energy, and other systems of this type. But no sign of an assistant of its own.

However, it seems that this is about to change. From XDA-Developers, we reveal today the first details about HiAssistant, the company’s first virtual assistant, which will reach the Huawei Mate 10 in the first place, along with the update of Android 8.1 and EMUI 8.1, although it will most likely not cross China’s borders, at least in the short term.

So far, the closest thing to a virtual assistant that we found in Huawei phones, was the HiVoice application incorporated in the models for the Chinese market. This system is not as advanced as the majority of attendees and is only able to answer simple questions or perform actions such as calls through the voice of the user.

But Huawei does not want to be left behind in the AI race adapted to smartphones, and in the latest firmware versions of the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, the HiAssistant application has been found, powered by the HiAI Mobile Computer platform. Logically, this new assistant will take advantage of the machine learning capabilities of the Kirin 970 processor and its neural processing unit.

Today, it is known that this system will incorporate, beyond a voice assistant similar to Bixby, Google Assistant or Siri, a function similar to Google Lens or Bixby Vision, through which to identify objects, food, people, animals or places, among many other things, through the camera of the mobile. This tool will have the name HiVision.

However, the differential aspect of this technology will be the understanding of natural language, one of the main scourges of current assistants, since HiAssistant will be able to interpret users’ sentences despite possible errors of pronunciation or inclusion of colloquialisms.

Another function discovered in the code of the application, is its ability to search for food, restaurants, music, navigation routes, air tickets and public transport, and much more, besides being able to identify with the camera objects like albums of music, series and movies or books, thanks to the Vision tool mentioned earlier.

Initially, HiAssistant will be available only on Huawei devices aimed at the Chinese market, and only those with a Kirin 970 processor, such as the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and the future Huawei P20 and P20 Pro, will be able to run the assistant, since the HiAI service is restricted to this mobile platform only.

Although it is still early to confirm that HiAssistant will remain indefinitely in Asian territory, the truth is that today there are no signs pointing to its arrival in the West. However, it is not ruled out that, in the future, when the system is sufficiently established, it could begin to expand to the rest of the international variants of the company’s high-end devices.
