Today in Android: Sprint LG V20 Oreo Update Rolling Out and More

There was a cloud of uncertainty surrounding the LG V20 Oreo update. However, the Korean variants of the V20 got theirs a few days ago, so it was only a matter of time before other regions got it. Today, it is the Sprint V20’s turn. It carries build number OPR1.170623.032 and comes bundled with the July security patch. The update brings standard Oreo features like Autofill, picture-in-picture, and notification dots, and a tweaked UI.

The HTC U12+ stirred some controversy when it decided to ditch physical buttons altogether and replaced them with pressure sensitive ones. Thankfully, the company seems to have listened to its customers and is trying to improve the buttons. HTC pushed an OTA update in Taiwan to the U12+ adding new features and a much-needed update to the pressure-sensitive buttons. The patch weighs 437MB, and the build number is 1.21.617.3. The camera application got an “auto zoom” feature, which lets you adjust the zoom by swiping on a grey dot. It is different from Sonic Zoom, which automatically zooms in on the source of the audio. The handset is also capable of unlimited 4K@30fps video recording from now on. Double-tapping on the Edge gesture is more accurate. Lastly, it bumps the U12+ up to the June security patch. Currently, the update is out only in Taiwan, but we can expect it to hit other regions soon.

Samsung updates Galaxy S9’s AR Emoji with characters from Frozen

In today’s episode of ‘features nobody asked for’, Samsung added new characters from Frozen to their AR Emoji repertoire. Frozen follows The Incredibles and Micky Mouse in the list of cartoon characters that are a part of AR Emoji. Galaxy S9 and S9+ users can create AR avatars of Anna, Elsa, Olaf and Kristoff. To start animating messages as one of your favourite Disney Frozen characters, open the Galaxy S9/S9+’s AR Emoji mode, tap the plus icon on the right-hand side to access the Galaxy Apps Store and download the Disney Frozen pack. Like with previous additions, these new characters can mimic your facial expressions in pictures and videos. Let it go Samsung, let it go.
