The Android Oreo update for the LG V30 has been all over the place, as Korean variants of the device received it back in December last year, while their American counterparts had to wait a few months for it. The update has been rolled out across the four major carriers, namely T-Mobile, Verizon, ATT and Sprint, but the carrier-unlocked versions have had no such luck, until now. XDA Developers managed to get their hands on the Oreo update for the unlocked LG V30. This XDA thread has all the resources you need to sideload the update on to your device, including the update file and detailed instructions on how to sideload it on to your device.

The Essential Phone is currently picking up an OTA which carries May’s monthly security patch on top of Android 8.1, merely hours after Google officially announced it. The update doesn’t bring much in the way of features and bug fixes, but it’s great to see security patches arriving in such a timely fashion. If you’re using an Essential Phone, the update should hit your device within the next couple of hours if it hasn’t already. Along with Essential, Sony is also already kicking off a rollout of May’s security patch to the Sony Xperia XZ, XZs, and X Performance. Sony isn’t known for its stellar track record when it comes to updates, so it’s nice to see that they’ve finally decided to keep up.
Huawei and its subsidiary Honor have been regular with Oreo updates for their devices, with a few hits and miss here and there. Like most other manufacturers, their older devices are often neglected and seldom receive a major OS update. However, this time around, things have changed as the companies have announced that the Huawei Mate 8, Huawei P9, Honor 8, Honor Note 8 and the Honor 6X will have a beta update to Android Oreo in China, which hopefully means these devices will receive the update in other markets later.

If you own one of the devices, it is very likely that you’ll have to wait for a while before receiving the update, as it’ll be a while before the update is rolled out across other regions, as it has to be beta tested first. Oreo marks the second major update for the devices, and it may very well be the last major software upgrade they’ll receive. Props to Huawei and Honor for not forgetting about their older devices, which seems to be the case with most Chinese OEMs.
