Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy S10 series and the phones have all the makings of a 2019 flagship lineup. Unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy S10 isn’t just an iterative upgrade over the previous generation and Samsung apparently went all out in the hopes of reviving sales. According to famed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the specifications bump and design change has significantly paid off.
Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus Are Expected to Be the Most Popular S10 Models
According to an investor note, Kuo has increased his shipping estimates for the Galaxy S10 by 30 percent from 30 million and 35 million to between 40 million and 45 million units. He was prompted by three factors to revise his update; specifications differentiation from the latest iPhones, better than expected demand in China, and trade-in programs.

According to the analyst, Samsung’s latest phones have an edge over the 2018 iPhones, in that they come with modern features such as an in-display fingerprint scanner, a triple camera system, and reverse wireless charging. iPhone, on the other hand, still hasn’t caught on to the latest trends. It is especially interesting to see the Galaxy S10 series selling well in China, a market where Apple is struggling, presumably because of iPhone’s high prices and lack of innovative features.
Of the four Galaxy S10 models that Samsung has revealed, Kuo believes that the standard Galaxy S10 and the bigger Galaxy S10 Plus will drive 85 percent of the sales. This seems to imply that the 5G variant of the Galaxy S10 isn’t going to account for a substantial amount of sales. As for Apple, the company’s highest-end iPhone is expected to come with a triple camera system of its own this year.
The company was reportedly planning to revive Touch ID by embedding it into the screen at first, but it is now thought to be concentrating its efforts entirely on the Face ID. The Samsung Galaxy S10 also has Facial recognition, but it doesn’t use 3D mapping for authenticating users. Either way, Kuo believes in-display fingerprint scanners are the preferred way of unlocking for consumers as it’s more convenient.
Later this month, Huawei is going to unveil its P30 series, and this will likely spice up the competition in China. It remains to be seen how the two flagships will stack up against each other. The P30 Pro will reportedly have a quad camera system with super zooming capabilities, and this something that the Galaxy S10 Plus lacks.
