Over the past few years, demand for entry-level and mid-range smartphones shot up, thanks to emerging markets such as India. As the demand for reasonably priced smartphones goes up, so does the need for a mobile SoC to go with the devices. Qualcomm’s 6xx series of chips are touted as the company’s mid-range offering and often find themselves in devices priced in the $200-400 range. Last month, Qualcomm unveiled yet another mid-range SoC in the Snapdragon 6xx series— the Snapdragon 675. It’s a close sibling to the Snapdragon 670 and 710, but it’s built on the 11nm node and features Qualcomm’s 4th generation Kryo core design.

Although no OEM has officially announced a Snapdragon 675-powered device yet, GSMArena managed to find one on Geekbench. For now, all we know about the mystery device is that it runs Android 9.0 Pie and has 4GB of RAM. We will have to wait a little bit more for some OEM to step up and take responsibility. We could potentially be looking at a Motorola or Nokia device, but it’s anyone’s guess, really.
The higher single and multi-core score confirms that the device is indeed powered by a Snapdragon 675. The next generation CPU cores from Qualcomm make all the difference, which gives it an edge over the Snapdragon 710. The Snapdragon 675 uses the same 2+6 core design, but instead of 2x Cortex-A75, it 675 adopts ARM’s new Cortex-A76 cores. For reasons unknown, the SD675 uses a less powerful Adreno 612 GPU. However, Qualcomm says it’s been optimized for better gaming performance, so it’s real-world performance remains to be seen.
