I want to clarify, 8am pst starts the @PlayApex teaser stream. It’s super cool, but it leads up to the full reveal of everything at noon. So you probably don’t have to call in sick, just fake food poisoning at lunch and go home early.https://t.co/LsOnVwY35B

We knew that a Titanfall game was probably coming this year from Respawn. The developers confirmed investment in the IP back in August 2017 and a few months ago, Electronic Arts revealed Respawn had ‘games’ on the way, hinting that there was at least another project on the schedule beyond Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (pinned for a Q4 2019 launch).
Over the weekend, multiple sources leaked information suggesting that a game called Apex Legends and set in the Titanfall universe will be announced and possibly even released tomorrow (Monday February 4th). Kotaku’s Jason Schreier confirmed as much, while Rod Breslau, an eSports consultant and insider, revealed plenty of details on his Twitter feed. As it turns out, it’s a F2P Battle Royale game where players don’t actually use the titular Titans.
Sources who have played and have knowledge of the game confirm to me that Respawn is set to announce and release Apex Legends on Monday, February 4th, a free to play Titanfall Hero Battle Royale game for PC, PlayStation4, and Xbox One.
Apex Legends will feature classes/heroes with unique abilities, maximum of 60 players per server, maximum of 3 players per team (trios) to compliment each other. No titans. Just as Titanfall and Titanfall 2, Apex Legends will run on a modified version of Valve’s Source engine.
Micro-transactions and loot boxes for cosmetic items and in-game content are said to be in Apex Legends with a very similar approach to that in Overwatch.
Respawn invited top streamers and esports pros across Battle Royale and other FPS games to playtest Apex Legends in Los Angeles this past week. Speaking anonymously, multiple attendees said the game felt good and were genuinely excited for it.
One top BR streamer/player provided their thoughts:
“The game definitely has A LOT of potential. I don’t think it’ll get old fast either. Was sad to leave when the time was up and I can’t really say that about any new games in this game drought. I’m excited to see where it goes.”
We’ll let you know all the official details pertaining to this unexpected release once they become available via Electronic Arts.
