DONTNOD’s role-playing game Vampyr is getting updated soon with two new play modes, the team confirmed today.
The two new play modes are Story Mode and Hard Mode. In Story Mode, combat will be de-emphasized, while Hard Mode will be much more challenging, with players also receiving less experience from killing enemies.

As well as bringing a host of optimization tweaks, the upcoming update will introduce a ‘Story’ mode that de-emphasizes combat and a cranked-up, more challenging Hard mode. The Story mode places a greater focus on narrative, allowing players to experience Dr. Reid’s journey with less challenging combat. On the other end of the scale, Hard mode makes combat much more difficult. Players will receive less experience from killing enemies too, forcing them to rely even more on embracing citizens to grow in power.
If you have yet to purchase Vampyr, the game is currently available on Steam with a 25% off. And you definitely should, if you’re a fan of RPGs, as the game by DONTNOD is definitely a fun experience with plenty of unique features.
Vampyr isn’t without flaws, but I had a lot of fun with it. While the dialogue system feels like an unexpected misstep, the combat, setting and story all make up for that stumble. Stalking through London and inciting fear into the hearts of the overconfident hunters felt fantastic. The spooky setting is filled with short but juicy stories worth finding, places worth exploring and detail worth appreciating. With a more interesting dialogue system, it would have been marvelous. As it stands, overlooking the occasional visual bugs and graphical lapses, Vampyr is still great fun, but like all undead, you’ll have to take the negatives with the positives.
Vampyr is now out on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
