After their rather confusing announcement in May, YouTube Music (and YouTube Music Premium, yes, we’re just as confused, have been launched. This might give you a better idea about what’s what and YouTube Premium services are finally rolling out en masse in a controlled global release. YouTube Red and YouTube music were previously available only in the US, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea. Today, it’s spreading to Canada and 11 European countries today as well. The YouTube Premium website went live just a few minutes ago. Existing YouTube Red subscribers should be able to see the rebranding to YouTube Premium on the desktop site. However, the mobile app will still say YouTube Red but expect that to change soon. Additionally, the YouTube Music site now should work for people in the above countries. It was only a matter of time before the services went live, as Google had already rolled out a desktop app for YouTube Music not too long ago.
Similar to YouTube Red, Google is offering three months of YouTube Premium (including YouTube Music Premium) for free. The offer might not be valid for existing YouTube Red users who have already availed in the past, so be sure to have a look around. For $11.99 a month, you can get yourself a YouTube Premium subscription that gives you an ad-free YouTube and YouTube Music experience, along with access to their exclusive content. If you don’t mind ads on your YouTube videos and want only the music, YouTube Music Premium will set you back by $9.99/month. Existing Google Play Music subscribers, however, can continue paying what they did earlier and continue to reap the benefits of YouTube Premium for no extra cost. The fate of Google Play Music is unknown at this point and we might see an eventual transition to YouTube Music in the coming months.
